YOUTH RODEO NEWS

Several north-central New Mexico athletes are headed to the New Mexico High School/Junior High School Rodeo Association’s state finals rodeo at the end of this month.  Representing the North are athletes from Los Alamos High School, Escalante High School in Tierra Amarilla, Chama Middle School, Coronado Middle School in Gallina and Connections Academy.

The multi-day event will attract contestants from across the state, covering 18 events with more than 150 contestants.  These athletes will be competing for the state title and the top four High School athletes and the top four Junior High School athletes in each event will be eligible to go on to nationals later this summer.  Junior High National Finals will take place in Des Moines, IA in June and High School Finals will take place in Lincoln, NE in July.

Because of coronavirus restrictions these young athletes have primarily practiced on their own the last year and have competed in 10 regular season rodeos prior to heading to the State finals.

Best of luck to our area’s High School competitors: Bayler Faulkner and Monte Faulkner (Escalante High School), Maxine Manzanares and Ty Manzanares (Connections Academy), and Rosalie Martinez (Los Alamos High School) and Junior High competitors: Keelin Faulkner (Escalante Middle School), Miguel Martinez (Chama Middle School), Addison Tixier (Coronado Middle School), and Stetson Trujillo and Wacey Trujillo (Los Alamos Middle School).
