Murder, deception, Navajo tradition, and the stars collide in this enthralling entry in New York Times bestselling author Anne Hillerman’s Leaphorn, Chee & Manuelito series, set amid the beautiful landscape of the American Southwest. What begins as a typical day for Officer Bernadette Manuelito—serving a bench warrant, dealing with a herd of cattle obstructing traffic, and stumbling across a crime scene—takes an unexpected twist when she’s called to help find an old friend. The book takes readers to the Alamo Navajo community and the Very Large Array radio telescope observatory as Officer Bernadette Manuelito investigates the possible suicide of a well-known astronomer.
Santa Fe author Anne Hillerman is a long-time friend of Los Alamos County Library System. Anne has a long history as a journalist, and she started off as a non-fiction author. She published her first fiction mystery novel, Spider Woman’s Daughter, in 2013. Anne says she switched to fiction after her father died because she knew his characters had more mysteries to solve. Stargazer, her sixth mystery, was released in April 2021. The book includes a personal essay from the author about the ideas that inspired the novel.
Anne Hillerman, daughter of author Tony Hillerman, worked for more than twenty years as a journalist, as editorial page editor for the Albuquerque Journal North and the Santa Fe New Mexican, and as an arts editor for both papers. Her first book, Children’s Guide to Santa Fe, was published in 1983. Her other nonfiction books include The Insiders’ Guide to Santa Fe, Gardens of Santa Fe, Done in the Sun, Ride the Wind: U.S.A. to Africa, and Tony Hillerman’s Landscape: On the Road with Chee and Leaphorn. Santa Fe Flavors: Best Restaurants and Recipes won the New Mexico Book Award for Best Cookbook of 2009.
