Recruitment activities are well underway to find a new manager for Los Alamos County as current County Manager Harry Burgess prepares to retire at the end of the month. County Council on Tuesday evening appointed Deputy County Manager Steve Lynne as Acting County Manager effective May 29 and lasting until a full-time county manager is appointed by Council.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Burgess updated Council on the recruiting contractor’s activities noting that a number of websites have been populated with the job posting which is linked to the County’s website so that applicants can fill out the County’s online application and submit their information to Human Resources to review and qualify.
Burgess said the recruiting company has also sent an email blast to some 2,700 candidates and used existing links that their staff have to reach out to others on LinkedIn as well as their list of people who have expressed interest in similar positions in the past.
“Their focus at present is on 16 cities and counties that house Department of Energy laboratories, New Mexico city and/or county managers and then other western cities and counties that have a significant portion of federal land in their jurisdiction,” he said.
Burgess said the recruiter anticipates conducting an online survey Monday for members of the public to identify particular aspects of the next county manager that they would like to see sought out during the recruitment process. The survey will be open for 14 days and closes on the same date as the application period.
Final interviews are expected to be held during the week of June 14 as well as a community town hall to allow residents to question finalist candidates and provide feedback. If the anticipated schedule works out, Council may appoint a new county manager June 29.
