Public Works Projects:
Canyon Rim Trail Underpass
AUI, Inc. of Albuquerque will continue work to construct the Canyon Rim Trail Underpass.
Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot and a 100 ft. section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety. During this week’s construction, crews will be working along the westbound and eastbound shoulders of NM 502 to clear and remove vegetation, but no vehicular travel lanes will be impacted at this time. AUI will be hauling excess material from the project site to a site off DP Road using end dump trucks. Traffic signs and devices will be installed. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.
The project includes extension of the 10 ft. wide hard surface trail connecting the terminus of the Canyon Rim Trail and existing trailhead to Entrada Drive beneath NM 502 via a reinforced concrete box structure.
ADA improvements along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street
Crews with GM Emulsion continue construction of pedestrian and ADA improvements along Trinity Drive between 35th and 39th Streets. Work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Traffic signs and devices will shift vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic around the work zones. Access to residents and businesses as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.
Leisure Lagoon (addition to the Aquatic Ctr)
CGI will be hauling excess material from the project site to a site off DP Road. The shoulder is closed on the north side of Canyon Road next to the Aquatic Center. In addition, the sidewalk next to the Nature Center is closed on the north side of Canyon Road. These closures are expected to continue throughout construction, until the completion of the project in early 2022.
Traffic & Streets Division Projects:

Justice Center and Library Overflow Parking Lots Pavement Preservation Project
Crews with GM Emulsion will be continuing the pavement preservation at the Overflow Parking Lot (former Farmer’s Market location) and the Justice Center. Both parking lots will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic during this project. Weather permitting, the project should last through April 30th. Crews will begin each day at 7:00 a.m. and end by 6:00 p.m.
Canyon Rd and Central Ave. Pavement Preservation
Traffic & Streets Division crews are performing pavement preservation along Canyon Rd, from 15th Street to Diamond Dr., and Central Ave from Oppenheimer to Canyon Rd. Work will being at 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This work will occur on days when the weather and temperature are favorable. A flagging operation will be used.
Dept. of Public Utilities Projects:

Planned Asphalt and Concrete Repairs – Various locations
GM Emulsion crews will continue repairs to emergency utility asphalt and concrete cuts that occurred during the winter. Crews will rotate to various locations throughout the Los Alamos and White Rock neighborhoods through next week. Some minor traffic delays are expected.
Traffic control equipment, such as signage, barrels and barricades will be erected around the work zones. Flagging operations may be deployed to assist with traffic flow. Work hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Most locations slated for repairs are on residential streets and should not take more than two to three days. Traffic impacts should be minimal. Motorists are advised to use caution and pay close attention to signage around the work zone.
Non-County Projects:
The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed, but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slow down in work zones. Please direct questions or concerns to the project contact listed below:
NM502 Roundabout Project
East bound traffic east of the Round-About is shifted to the north side of NM 502 and channeled back into the east bound lane in front of the Crossroads Church. This is necessary to demo and build and the remaining south side of NM 502. The traveling public is advised to exercise caution while traveling through this area.
Canyon Road is closed at First Street and the intersect of W. Manhattan Loop and Canyon Road. Access to the affected residences will be accommodated accordingly. This closure is necessary to demo and build the new alignments of Canyon Road and Manhattan Loop.
Arroyo Lane is required to access NM 502 on the north side with east and west bound traffic. A STOP sign will be in place at that junction with NM 502. Those motorists are encouraged to pay attention to the traffic control signage.
Motorists are reminded the posted speed limit through the project is 25 MPH.
Cablecom, LLC – Aragon Ave Utility Work
Cablecom will be boring to connect cable lines to a pedestal across the street on Aragon Avenue between Bryce Avenue and Connie Avenue. There will be a sidewalk closure along Aragon Avenue and there will be a flagging operation in place during the project. The work will occur April 26 and 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Cartwright’s Plumbing – Road Work: La Vista, La Paloma Dr. in White Rock:
La Vista Drive at NM4 and at La Paloma Drive. continues to be closed while crews are working in this area through Monday, April 26. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. daily. Contractor is cutting across La Vista Drive on the South end by La Paloma Drive. Detour signs direct foot and pedestrian traffic to Grand Canyon Drive. R and M Construction – 1010 Central Ave., Sidewalk Closure
Sidewalk access on the north side of Central Avenue from 1000 Central Avenue to the entrance to the Bradbury Museum complex is closed to pedestrian traffic through April 30. Pedestrian traffic is detoured to the south side of Central Avenue at Knecht Street and then detoured at the intersection of Central Avenue and 15th to the north side of Central Avenue. Marcon Excavating – Arkansas Ave Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement
Arkansas Avenue between Diamond Drive and 41st Street continues to be closed to through traffic until May 17 while crews replace existing water and sewer lines and connect to County infrastructure for Arkansas Place and the new townhomes being constructed. Contact: Kris Luster 505-690-0587.
DP Rd (Work related to Canyon Walk Apts and The Bluffs – Bethel Development)
Qualcon Builders, LLC – 120 DP Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement and Roadway Reconstruction
Next week, trenching activities for the storm drain installation will be completed and roadway reconstruction activities will get underway with grading and curb & gutter construction. These activities will impact DP Road from Trinity Drive to Fire Station #2 with segments of the roadway restricted to one-lane traffic controlled by a flagged/signaled system. One-lane traffic restrictions will occur only during hours of construction potentially from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. Access to businesses in this area will be maintained during these activities.
The contractor is working in the right-of-way to replace existing utilities with upgraded services related to the new Canyon Walk Apartments (under construction) and The Bluffs senior housing (soon to be constructed). After completion of the storm drain work, the roadway reconstruction, including installation of curb and gutter, and sidewalks will begin with the final paving being the last activity. All construction activities related to the reconstruction of DP Road are currently expected to be substantially completed by the end of April.
