The Los Alamos County Library Board invites the community to celebrate National Library Week April 4 -10.
John Nash, chair of the Los Alamos County Library Board, states, “This past year has been very difficult. I’m not sure I’ve ever not been in a library over the course of a year, but it helps remind us of the value and importance, not just of our libraries but of our librarians and library workers, as well as the many ways they serve beyond just checking out books or videos. We are grateful for all the ways the library serves the community, and for their flexibility and creativity in being the library to Los Alamos and White Rock. And so, as we celebrate National Library Week, the library board wants to know “Why do YOU love Los Alamos County Libraries and Library Workers?”.”
Celebrate #LosAlamosLibraries, #NationalLibraryWeek, and #LACCSD by writing a card, sending an email, or making a social media post @LosAlamosCommunityServices on Facebook or @LACCSD on Instagram, with photos about how the Los Alamos County Libraries touch your life. There will be two $20 gift card prizes for participants, one to Pig & Fig in White Rock, and one to Metzger’s Do It Best in Los Alamos.
The theme for National Library Week 2021, “Welcome to Your Library,” promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building – and that everyone is welcome to use their services. During the pandemic libraries have adapted to our changing world by expanding their resources and continuing to meet the needs of their users. Whether people visit in person or virtually, libraries offer opportunities for everyone to explore new worlds and become their best selves through access to technology, multimedia content and educational programs.
Natalie Portman, Academy Award-winning actress, director, producer, author and activist, is the honorary chair of National Library Week, April 4-10, 2021. She will help highlight the essential role libraries, librarians and library workers play in serving their communities, especially during challenging times. Portman states “Libraries are open, inclusive places that foster a sense of
belonging and community. They show us anything is possible by encouraging a love of learning, discovery and exploration. I hope people will take time during the week to visit their library online or in person.”
