Registration has opened for the Y’s enriching child care programs, including Summer Camp and After School. The registration fee of $25 will be waived for through April 19. Additionally, the Y is hiring staff to deliver exceptional programming now and this summer. Current participants can register by calling 662-3100. New registrants can download forms and turn them in at the Y, 1450 Iris Street.
Child Enrichment Coordinator Janine Morales said all childcare programs have adopted Covid-19 safe protocols, which are available on the Y’s website, laymca.org. The programs require participants to wear a mask and follow numerous safety guidelines, she said.
Morales encourages parents to register early, even if it looks like they must go on a waiting list, because this will help the Y obtain adequate space for all programs.
The Y offers discounts to children who are Y members and sibling discounts. She said financial assistance (application online) is available for parents in need. “The Y is a nonprofit charitable organization, and thanks to donors, we make sure everyone can be a part of Y programs.”

Full Day Childcare For Elementary Youth Continues through April 2. The Y is currently providing extended learning time care from 7:30 am-5:30 pm at Aspen Elementary, and offers half-day options.
Y After-School Spring 2021. Care for ages 5-12, begins April 5, at all of the elementary school sites in Los Alamos. In White Rock, care will be provided at Chamisa Elementary (hosting Pinon children). The Y offers care options for two-days per week, including Wednesdays, to 5 times per week. Space is limited, but after limits, people will be put on a waiting list.
June After-School Program, begins June 1 and ends June 21. This is a half-day program that coincides with LAPS Extended Learning. It will be held at Chamisa, Barranca and Aspen (hosting Mountain). Transportation will be provided for those children without parent transportation. Program will run from 12-5:45 pm, Monday-Friday. Space is limited; children will be added to waiting list once program is filled.
Y Summer Camp Begins June 22. This program is for ages 5 to 12, and runs until July 30. Camp will be held at Aspen Elementary School from 7:30 am-5:30 pm, and will feature a different theme each week. All summer, monthly, weekly, and daily rates are available.
