Los Alamos High School senior Jillian Puckett received a Silver Medal in the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing National Competition for her editorial cartoon, Meanwhile in New Zealand. Ten artists from LAHS received awards for their works in drawing and illustration, digital art, photography, mixed media, painting, editorial cartoon and comic art in the regional competition. Puckett and fellow senior Kari Mason were awarded Gold Keys which qualified them to move on to the national competition.
“I am very proud of Jillian and all of my students,” said LAHS art teacher Mary Grace. “We brought home 22 awards, including three Gold Keys. Topping it off with a Silver Medal at the national level is an outstanding accomplishment for both my students and the art program.”
Eight students received honorable mention and four were named Silver Keys in the regional competition.
