18th Annual Clean Up Los Alamos Day Slated For April 24

LOS ALAMOS COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES NEWS

Los Alamos County Environmental Services and the Environmental Sustainability Board would like to invite the community to participate in the 18th Annual Clean Up Los Alamos Day on Saturday, April 24th. Clean Up LA Day is where residents and businesses volunteer to pick up litter throughout the County. Volunteers are encouraged to pick a location around the community to clean up and make beautiful. Locations can range from a favorite park, walking trail or around the neighborhood.

During this event the County would like to remind volunteers to please follow the State mandated COVID-19 safe practices. Participants will receive free trash bags and gloves which can be collected at the Eco Station office beginning Tuesday, April 20 through Friday, April 23, or residents can call 505-662-8163 or email solidwaste@lacnm to arrange another pickup time.

Due to COVID, the volunteer appreciation lunch will not be held. However, Environmental Services will be holding a raffle for all volunteers that participate in the online photograph challenge. Raffle prizes include one of five backyard compost bins and one of three zero waste kits. To enter to win, participants must take a picture during the cleanup event. The picture can be a before and after cleanup of an area or a picture picking up trash. Then, post the picture on Facebook, and tag Los Alamos County Environmental Services and use the hashtag #quarancleanupLA. All pictures with the tag and the hashtag will automatically be entered in the raffle.

Groups must sign the waivers of liability, scan, and email the waivers to sara.martinez@lacnm.us prior to commencing clean-up activities. Waivers will be emailed to participants upon registration. Register online at: https://www.losalamosnm.us/cms/One.aspx?portalId=6435810&pageId=8323013

Just looking to clean up around the house? Residents receive free disposal at the Eco Station and Overlook Collection Center on Saturday, April 24th by showing proof of Los Alamos County residency. Join us in our effort to make Los Alamos environmentally and ecofriendly by recycling more and recycling right.

Last year, over 250 participants collected trash and brush around the Los Alamos and White Rock area. The County collected approximately 14.6 tons of solid waste and 178 residents utilized the Eco Station Overlook Collection Center for free disposal.

Environmental Services staff would like to thank our generous sponsors: Zia Credit Union, Coca-Cola of Santa Fe, and Los Alamos County.
