Construction Of Canyon Rim Trail Underpass To Begin Mar. 29

COUNTY NEWS

Beginning Monday, Mar. 29, crews with AUI, Inc. of Albuquerque will begin work to construct the Canyon Rim Trail Underpass. The project  includes extension of the 10 ft. wide hard surface trail connecting the terminus of the  Canyon Rim Trail and existing trailhead to Entrada Drive beneath NM 502 via a reinforced  concrete box structure.

Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility  relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot and a 100 ft. section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety. During this first week of construction, crews will  also be working along the westbound and eastbound shoulders of NM 502 to clear and  remove vegetation, but no vehicular travel lanes will be impacted at this time. Traffic signs  and devices will be installed. Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians and are advised to stay  alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.

The project is funded through a federal transportation alternatives grant and county capital  improvement program funds and is scheduled for completion late October.
