SENATE REPUBLICANS NEWS
New Mexico Senate Republican leaders today released the following response to the state Secretary of Education’s announcement that all schools are now eligible for full reentry:
“While we are pleased that New Mexico students will finally be able to return to the classroom, we remain deeply concerned about the long-term effects of the Governor’s extended closures. Recent reports indicate that our children have potentially lost more than a year of learning and the fact that the Administration waited until now to reopen is beyond troubling.”
“Today’s announcement had nothing to do with science. Rather, it represents a caving by the Governor and her team to the wishes of New Mexico students and parents who refused to be silent. To those individuals, we thank you for your voice and your advocacy. The credit for reopening belongs to you.”
Republican Leader, Senator Greg Baca (District 29-Bernalillo and Valencia)
Republican Whip, Senator Craig Brandt (District 40-Sandoval)
Republican Caucus Chair, Senator Mark Moores (District 21-Bernalillo)
