Legislature: Daylight Savings Bill Passes The Senate With Bipartisan Support

Today, the New Mexico Senate passed Senate Bill 102, sponsored by Senator Cliff Pirtle (District 32-Chaves, Eddy, and Otero). If enacted, the new law would keep New Mexico on Daylight Saving Time year-round pending approval from the federal government.

Senator Pirtle issued the following statement regarding the Senate passage of Senate Bill 102:

“My continued priority as a legislator in Santa Fe is to do what is best for our families. This bill is a practical fix to a nagging issue. Passing this bill into law would have us join 16 other states in preserving Daylight Saving Time year-round, bringing stability to our time system. That extra hour at the end of the day is an extra hour families can spend together and an extra hour of safety for those commuting home from work. I thank my colleagues for the bipartisan support and I look forward to another spirited discussion in the House of Representatives.”
