Los Alamos Public Schools Supt. Kurt Steinhaus has released the latest parent newsletter which contains updates on COVID testing and vaccinations, contingency plans in the event that the superintendent is out due to COVID, and information on school safety plans.

The newsletter may be viewed at: https://www.smore.com/tfa54-laps-parent-newsletter?ref=email-content#w-3398795233. Also in the newsletter are information on planned interventions for learning loss, a section on well-being tips and items of general interest.

As of Monday at 5 p.m., LAPS reported 23 COVID cases among students and 7 staff cases. At Tuesday evening’s school board meeting, a moment of silence was observed. Board President Ellen Ben-Naim said the board recognized that there are many in the school families and community families who have lost loved ones or have family members in the hospital due to COVID-19.

“In fact, one of our neighboring communities, Pojoaque, recently lost a teacher, Laura Escalante, due to COVID. Many people on this call knew her and loved her,” Ben-Naim said. “So, we will take a moment of silence to remember and honor those who we’ve lost and to send out positive thoughts or prayers to those who are struggling to recover.”
