Los Alamos Man Dies In Two-Car Collision Saturday in Sandoval County, Passenger Injured

On Saturday, November 14 at around 8 a.m., the New Mexico State Police responded to a two-vehicle fatal head-on collision on U.S. 550 at about mile post 22 in Sandoval County, near San Ysidro.

The initial investigation indicates that a 2018 Kia driven by a 26 -year-old male of Jemez Pueblo was traveling north on U.S. 550 when for reasons still under investigation he crossed the center line and collided head on with a 2016 Subaru occupied by driver Cody Muchmore, 27, and his passenger, a 28 year-old female, both of Los Alamos. 

Cody Muchmore suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.  The passenger was transported to an area hospital for her injuries. Her condition is not known.  The driver of the Kia was transported to an area hospital for his injuries.  His condition is not known. 

The driver of the Kia is facing charges stemming from the crash.  His name will not be released until he is formally charged.  Additional details about this crash remain under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
