VETERANS NEWS
It wouldn’t be Veterans Day in Los Alamos without some kind of celebration recognizing the men and women who have served our country in the military, many of them making the ultimate sacrifice. With the pandemic this year, it felt strange to many people that Nov. 11 would come and go without being marked in some way by the community.
With that in mind, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, American Legion Post 90 and B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 2083 are inviting the community to join them for a vehicle parade Wednesday at 11 a.m. The parade will begin at the Elks Lodge, 1601 Trinity Drive and travel along Knecht Street to Central Avenue, over to Diamond Drive and back down Trinity Drive to the Elks Lodge.
Drivers are encouraged to decorate their vehicles with flags, posters and patriotic items. Veterans are invited to wear their uniforms. A brief ceremony will be held at the Elks Lodge before the parade heads out and can be observed from vehicles. The Los Alamos High School NJROTC will present flags at Ashley Pond as the parade passes. All state-mandated COVID-19 measures will be in place.
