Los Alamos National Laboratory-TRIAD, LLC recently awarded a grant to The Family YMCA to support afterschool and full day childcare for Los Alamos Public School staff and community members.
The $15,000 grant to the Y will help LAPS staff and community members needing financial assistance for childcare, support Y staff training in Neurosequential and Social Emotional learning, and help fund supplies for an enhanced STEAM-based curriculum in afterschool and full day camp programs.
“This grant is extremely important in support of our teaching community especially in light of the challenges that the Covid pandemic has presented,” said Y CEO Chris Daniels. “Best safe practices dictate low ratios, stringent cleaning and screening, and this funding will help us meet community needs for enriching after school programming.”
Daniels said the Y is taking a simple financial assistance application for all LAPS employees and others facing financial challenges, and considers extenuating circumstances when awarding aid.
“We are very grateful to have LANL-TRIAD as a community partner to support this current need in our community,” Daniels said.
