STEM SANTA FE NEWS
STEM education has suffered during the pandemic with distance learning. In response, STEM Santa Fe expanded programming virtually, offering a math festival and five STEM summer camps. They are continuing this effort by launching their annual STEM Pathways for Girls Conference. This conference kicks off STEM Santa Fe’s monthly program which aims to spark interest in STEM education for girls in 5th-8th grade. With hands-on workshops led by women in STEM, the goal is to keep girls engaged in STEM education while providing a local support system of like-minded peers and role models.
The STEM Pathways for Girls Conference will be virtual this year but just as engaging and hands-on. Registration is now open but space is limited. Northern New Mexico girls in 5th-8th grade are invited. They will choose two out of 12 STEM workshops offered via Zoom with materials locally distributed a week before the conference. Additionally, there will be three live evening STEM presentations on Youtube beginning with keynote speaker Susan Martinez, a NASA Engineer, speaking virtually from NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama.
“We are staying true to the conference’s goals by continuing to offer hands-on workshops that cover a wide range of STEM disciplines. With the conference being virtual, we are able to present three exciting speakers from other parts of the country!” Lina Germann, Founder and CEO of STEM Santa Fe commented. “We are also dedicating the conference to the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Every girl attending this conference will walk away not only inspired by women in STEM but also knowing more about what RBG has done for females.”
STEM Santa Fe is able to offer the conference to all girls at low to no cost by waiving the registration fee of $25 upon request because of their generous sponsors:
