BY LEO JARAMILLO
Democratic Candidate for
State Senate District 5

As a former educator and union member, I am humbled by earning the endorsements from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) New Mexico and the New Mexico Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.

During the past several months, I have had the opportunity to speak to union members who shared concerns as well as their ideas on how elected officials can better protect New Mexico’s working families and our students. Conversations centered on investing in public education, supporting educators and paying them adequately, collective bargaining, and protecting essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the Staff Operations Manager for the Associate Laboratory Director for Facilities and Operations, I proudly work alongside and represent craft union employees at Los Alamos National Laboratory. My work experience has helped me to truly understand how unions play a major role in bringing employees together to solve problems and make changes that improve the lives of working families and our communities.

As your next Senator for District 5, I will be a strong advocate for social and economic justice. I look forward to working with State Representative Christine Chandler to champion the causes near and dear to New Mexico’s workers and our students.
