DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NEWS

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will begin a roadway improvement project on the highway between Espanola and Velarde, in Alcalde (NM 68).  This project will consist of roadway and bridge reconstruction.  The project will begin just north of the Ohkay Owingeh Casino for approximately 3 and a half miles north through Alcalde.

Starting August 24, the highway will be reduced to one lane northbound and southbound, in various locations around Alcalde.  The posted speed limit will drop to 40 mph.

The contractor will be working Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Motorists can expect delays during this time. This project will be ongoing for the next two years.

Northern Mountain Constructors of Taos, New Mexico is the contractor for the project.

Drivers are urged to watch for workers in the area, observe traffic control signs and reduce speed to the posted speed limit.  Updates on this project will be posted on the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s road advisory website, http://nmroads.com/.
