Rep. Christine Chandler (HD43) announced Sunday that she has received the endorsement from the New Mexico Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO (NMFL) for the 2020 General Election cycle. The NM Federation of Labor, representing New Mexico’s labor unions from across the state, made the endorsement following an extensive questionnaire and interview process.

“I am honored to have the support of New Mexico’s workers who keep our state running day-in and day-out,” said Chandler. “I am particularly honored in light of the difficult times we are going through. These are the workers who keep our state operating. They are the fire fighters, paramedics, plumbers, corrections officers, educators, airline workers, and the laborers from countless industries who have stood up to protect us during the pandemic.”

“Your stances on labor issues, as well as your desire to advocate for continual improvement of worker friendly policy at all levels on behalf of New Mexico’s students, parents, and communities have earned this endorsement,” said President Vince Alvarado and Secretary-Treasurer Ashley Long in a written statement to Chandler’s campaign.

The NM Federation of Labor is one of nearly 500 state and local labor councils of the AFL-CIO and are democratically elected bodies dedicated to representing the interests of working people at the state and local level. Their membership includes bakers, electricians, fire fighters, paramedics, iron workers, office workers, plumbers, corrections officers, sheet metal workers, educators, laborers, machinists, airline workers, insulators, healthcare workers, painters, autoworkers, transportation workers, state workers, film workers, and countless others.

Chandler will be on the November 3, 2020 General Election ballot. She was first elected in 2018 and must run every election cycle to keep her seat in the NM Legislature.
