Santa Fe County Sheriff’s detectives have charged a 16-year old Santa Fe resident with an open count of first degree murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a handgun, and negligent use of a deadly weapon in the shooting death of FeDonta Mikel White, also known as JB White, 18, of Santa Fe.
According to SFCSO investigators, deputies responded to a shooting at 33 Camino Chupadero, Santa Fe at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Based on witness accounts, a party was being held at the residence. At about 3:30 a.m, gunshots were heard and one of the partygoers had been shot. The shooting victim was identified as White.
Friends of White began transporting him in a vehicle to Christus St. Vincent Regional. En route to the hospital they encountered EMS first responders who transported White to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation indicates that JB White and another individual identified as Estevan Mateo Montoya, 16, became involved in a physical altercation which eventually resulting in Montoya shooting White. Montoya fled the crime scene and was apprehended later with the assistance of Santa Fe Police Department. Montoya has been charged and is currently being being held in the Santa Fe County Juvenile Detention Center.
