NMSP Investigates Fatal Crash On US 64 In Rio Arriba County

On July 12 at about 9:42 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on US 64, near mile post 151, west of Chama, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a 1993 Jeep, driven by a 21-year-old female of Jemez Springs, NM was traveling west on US 64 when the Jeep struck an elk and rolled.  After the Jeep rolled, the Jeep struck the driver’s side of another vehicle, a 1972 Chevrolet pickup which was driven by Lance Gray (59) of Penasco, NM.  The driver of the Chevrolet, Gray, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.  The female driver of the Jeep was uninjured in the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash and Seatbelt appear to have not been properly utilized.  The driver’s name of the Jeep will not be released as no charges have been filed.  No additional information is available.
