District 43 Rep. Christine Chandler and District 25 Sen. Peter Wirth are the sponsors of a tax relief bill recently announced by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham as an agenda item for the special session of the state legislature which begins at noon today.
“Having spent countless hours talking with individuals and business owners who are facing financial hardship due to the pandemic, I am pleased to be the House sponsor of the tax relief bill,” Chandler told the Los Alamos Reporter.
Chandler said the legislation waives penalties and interest on delinquent taxes for certain personal and corporate tax filers and for delinquent gross receipts and property taxes.
“The bill also doubles the FY 21 distribution to local governments from the state’s collection of the recently enacted internet sales tax. Local governments have seen a drop in GRT revenues necessary to support basic services for their residents,” she said. “This provision will provide important support for our local communities as they work to recover from the coronavirus crisis.”
