COUNTY NEWS

In continuing to align with directives from the Governor’s Office and Los Alamos County, County Clerk Naomi Maestas is taking the next step to exit the pandemic emergency. Beginning today, Monday, June 15th, the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office will open for in-person transactions between 1pm and 5pm, Monday thru Friday, with CSP in place – including the mandatory use of face masks, plexiglass at public facing counters, limits on the number of people in the lobby area, regular cleaning of public spaces and surfaces, and social distancing of six feet or more. Residents are highly encouraged to continue to stay safe, and conduct business remotely by computer or phone whenever possible, and limit in-person transactions to urgent matters.

“As the COVID-19 crisis continues, my office has adapted to new challenges, while continuing to serve the people of Los Alamos County, taking unprecedented measures to help ensure the safety and well- being of my staff and the general public,” said Clerk Maestas. “While the office begins to transition back, we ask for your cooperation in adhering to the CSP set in place, and we ask for your patience, as some transactions may require an appointment or take slightly longer than it would during normal operations.”

Customers may continue to drop off items in the designated Drop-Box located outside the Clerk’s Office, and items will be returned by mail or placed outside for pick-up. Clerk Maestas would like to remind customers of services that are available online, avoiding the need to come into the office. To search the real estate document index or government documents, customers may utilize the Online Records Portal. For searching probate and marriage records, or to apply for a marriage license, customers may use the Probate & Marriage Online Records Portal. Please visit the County Clerk’s Office webpage at www.losalamosnm.us/clerk to view additional services.

Clerk Maestas and staff are working closely with the New Mexico Secretary of State and our Los Alamos County officials for their support and preparedness related to the upcoming November 2020 General Election. At this time, there have been NO changes to the upcoming election cycle. However, for those who are concerned about health risks posed by COVID-19, there are a few election related items that can be handled online or through the United States Postal Service. Citizens are reminded to utilize NMVote.org for voter registration and to other election related services, i.e. voter registration, absentee requests.

The Clerk’s Office thanks you for your continued support in following the recommended CSP, as it will be more important than ever to be diligent in these practices. Wear a face covering, practice social distancing, and avoid large social gatherings. As this situation continues to evolve, the Clerk’s Office will share updates on any additional changes to daily operations via the web at http://www.losalamosnm.us/clerk and through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
