COUNTY NEWS

Using mulch is an important way to maintain a healthy landscape. Mulch helps keep the soil moist, which is beneficial for those that live in a dry climate where water is limited. It helps keep the soil temperature cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. As mulch decays into the soil below, the soil quality increases with all the nutrients from the mulch. Weeding time is reduced when using mulch in garden beds, giving you more time to enjoy the garden.

Environmental Services has mulch available for your landscape needs. Residents have the opportunity to come to the Eco Station to load mulch themselves for free or ask for an employee to load the mulch for a service fee of $3 per cubic yard plus tax. Environmental Services also provides a delivery service within Los Alamos County. The delivery fee is $71 per hour (with a minimum of one hour) and $3 per cubic yard loading fee plus tax. Deliveries are made on weekdays only and each truck load capacity is 12 cubic yards. The fees may be charged to resident’s utility bill or paid in advance with cash, check, or credit card. To schedule a delivery please contact Environmental Services at 505-662-8163 or solidwaste@lacnm.us.
