Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation Purchases PPE To Distribute To Local Small Business Community

Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation (LACDC) has purchased limited amounts of personal protective equipment (PPE) to donate to small businesses located in Los Alamos County.

With the New Mexico health order now requiring individuals to wear facial coverings in public, and the added precautions businesses are taking as their stores prepare to reopen, many are in need of masks and other PPE. In order to help with this added burden, the LACDC, Chamber and MainStreet started sourcing PPE.

LACDC was able to source limited amounts of gloves, disposable paper masks and hand sanitizer. Thank you to Melissa Arias of Rose Chocolatier for allowing LACDC to order some PPE through their supplier.

100 fabric masks were also made and donated by seven volunteer members of the Los Alamos Mask Donations group led by locals Brittany Dowd and Lissie Ham. The group now has 31 members making masks for a variety of groups in need in and around Los Alamos.

The Chamber of Commerce and Los Alamos MainStreet will be fairly distributing the PPE. The amount each business can receive will depend on quantities available, demand, and the employee count at each business. Businesses in need of supplies should contact ufemia@losalamos.org by Friday, May 29 to be added to the list. PPE will be distributed on Monday, June 1.

Full details of the New Mexico health order can be found at the New Mexico Department of Health site  https://cv.nmhealth.org/public-health-orders-and-executive-orders/ . This order mandates compliance with COVID-safe practices, a series of requirements and best practices for individuals, businesses and other services that will assure the safety of employees and customers when businesses reopen.
