The Los Alamos Public Schools Native American Parent Advisory Council (NAPAC) will host the 2nd Annual Native American Sash Ceremony for members of the Class of 2020 on Sunday, May 24. The public is invited to watch the live stream beginning at 4:00 pm. The link may be found at https://stream.meet.google.com/stream/5a3634cc-10a0-46ca-8633-60c4ecfcf7b0.
Seniors will be presented with these sashes that are woven in the customary form of a traditional pueblo belt. Woven by Cris Velarde, Santa Clara Pueblo and Jicarilla Apache, these sashes represent the journey each student has taken to reach this milestone.
“On behalf of the NAPAC, it has been a privilege to work with Superintendent Steinhaus, the School Board and High School Administration in making this special event happen this year.” stated James R. Mountain, NAPAC Chair. “This marks an incredible achievement by our Students and makes this year so much more significant in light of the current state of affairs. Our school district has been fully committed to and supportive of our Native students and their heritage; thus, ensuring every possible opportunity for success. Thank you LAPS!”
