LWV NEWS
The League of Women Voters will utilize a Zoom meeting for its Lunch with a Leader at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, May 19. Our leader will be Maire O’Neill who founded the Los Alamos Reporter online news page in September 2018. You may recall that we had scheduled her for March, but life took a sudden change, and we had to cancel.
Maire O’Neill founded the Los Alamos Reporter in September 2018 as a forum for news from Los Alamos and beyond. Born and raised in Ireland, she spent several years working and traveling in Europe before coming to the United States in 1983. She is a naturalized U.S. citizen. Maire lived in Nevada for many years where she wrote for rural newspapers and was a stringer for the Reno Gazette Journal and Nevada Magazine. She also worked for the Stealth Fighter program at Tonopah Test Range, the Yucca Mountain Project at the Nevada Test Site and was the owner/operator of a bed and breakfast inn for a while. Maire lived in the West Richland, Washington with her husband Mike and daughter JoAnna for four years before they relocated to Los Alamos in 2005. She wrote for the Los Alamos Daily Post for some 20 months before setting out on her own adventure as the Reporter.
Advance registration is required to attend this LWL. Follow the link below to register:
https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwpcumqrDwtEtwcVl0KejK5JfiEg_GbsrPV
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
The format will be slightly different from the LWL with County Manager Harry Burgess in that it will be in a Zoom meeting format rather than in Webinar format. The main difference is that the “audience” will have both microphones and cameras, and will be able to raise their hands. The plan is to turn off everybody’s microphone/camera so that it looks more like the webinar situation than like the LWV annual meeting, but we can toggle people on and off for questions and comments if we want to.
Once you register, you will receive an email confirming your registration and providing you with the link to the meeting. If you have questions, you can call Karyl Ann Armbruster, (505) 231-8286.
