Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday released incidents reports to the Los Alamos Reporter on the shooting of a 36-year old woman as she sat in her car outside the Pojoaque Market Wednesday at approximately 5 p.m.

According to the incident reports, following calls to 911 Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene to find several people assisting a female victim on the ground near a vehicle. They reported that she had a bandana tied on her upper forearm above a gunshot would to her left wrist and that she had a second gunshot wound to the right side of her lower back.

A deputy noted that the woman was screaming in pain and unable to tell deputies about the incident. When emergency medical services arrived, she was transported to Christus St. Vincent’s Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe for treatment. Deputies were handed the victim’s cell phone at the scene and it was taken into evidence.

Incident reports state that video surveillance from the Pojoaque Market showed that the the suspect exited his car, walked to the driver’s side of the victim’s car, discharged two rounds and fled the parking lot heading south on US 84/285.

Pojoaque Pueblo Tribal Police located a car matching the description of the suspect’s car outside a Pojoaque residence and deputies went to the residence where they made contact with Freddy Trujillo, PPTP Chief and Pojoaque Pueblo Gov. Joseph Talachy.

Chief Trujillo said a male and female had been removed from the residence via calling over a loudspeaker and were separated until the deputies arrived. The male and female gave permission to check the residence and vehicle for suspects and evidence. After receiving better quality photos of the suspect’s vehicle, the couple was cleared.

According to the incident reports, an unnamed female witness said while leaving the Pojoaque Supermarket she saw a man trying to argue with a woman in a vehicle in the parking lot. She said the man punched the window of the woman’s car, shot into the back window and then shot into the front window. The witness reported that she could not hear what the man was saying but gave police a description of him.
