LA CARES NEWS
LA Cares is a food pantry for Los Alamos County. Residents of Los Alamos County can apply for and receive a monthly food box. In April the distribution model was changed from a “shopping trip” to a “drive-thru” pick-up. The May distribution will follow the same procedure where clients stay in their cars and stop at stations for different food items. This is a “no-contact” process in order to protect clients as well as volunteers.
The next distribution will be May 7-8 at the parking lot of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church on North Road: Thursday, May 7, from 6 pm- 7:30 pm; and Friday, May 8, from 10:30 am. – noon.
In order to register for a food box, clients, both new and existing, need to call the message line at 661-8015 by Sunday, May 3. If someone has recently become unemployed, they would automatically qualify using the income standards from the USDA. Those people would also need to call the message line and register for a food box. In cases of immediate need emergency food boxes are also available.
Because of the coronavirus situation, LA Cares cannot accept food donations at this time. If you would like to make a monetary donation, LA Cares has a new way to help: PayPal!! In order to donate you need a personal PayPal account (it’s easy to set one up), then enter LA Cares’ email address in the “Send money to” space:
Then you can choose the amount. Checks can also be sent to: LA Cares, PO Box 248, Los Alamos, NM 87544. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will be spent helping residents of Los Alamos County ONLY.
A huge thank you goes out to those who have recently donated money. In April we were able to provide over 90 families with many necessities. With your continued support we will help meet the needs of those who are at risk.
