Residents and staff of Aspen Ridge Lodge and Sombrillo Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center will be screened for COVID-19 if they request it, Linda Bullock, executive director of the two facilities told the Los Alamos Reporter Tuesday.

Some 18 residents of BeeHive Homes of White Rock, a 29-bed assisted living facility, were tested April 2 in conjunction with a Department of Health testing event at Overlook Park. With the emergence of the COVID-19 virus in nine congregate-living facilities throughout the state, The Department of Health is making testing supplies available to some 75 facilities, however, Bullock said Aspen Ridge and Sombrillo have not received theirs yet.

“The Department of Health has been very supportive,” she said. “We are doing okay and have plenty of supplies. Our testing swabs could arrive at any moment.”

Bullock noted that she would love to receive some of the cloth face coverings that are being sewn by people in the community to use for residents and staff members.

Bullock said Aspen Ridge and Sombrillo have been locked down for several weeks with no visitors allowed. She asked that community members young and old consider sending cards, letters and drawings for residents and staff who may be feeling isolated.

“If you have a friend or relative here, I encourage you to send them some mail. They would love to hear from you.” she said.
