As part of the University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) Community Internship Collaboration (CIC) program, a student working with Los Alamos MainStreet is spearheading a possible “Los Alamos-in-a-Box” project and seeking public input through a survey.

“The concept would highlight offerings from local businesses and vendors and be packaged in a way that would promote those businesses,” said Danna Mayer-Llamas, CIC intern. “I am gathering feedback on what offerings would be most useful in the community, whether it’s to help introduce Los Alamos to visitors who come here for special events, conferences and tournaments, to parents looking to send a care package to their college students, or maybe even a box of fresh produce from our local farmers or a special holiday gift box that features items locally made and found in Los Alamos.”

Mayer-Llamas said the short survey will better identify the best opportunities for the box concept. It is open from April 14-22 and can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JTBZ65K. The link is also available on the Los Alamos MainStreet Facebook page.

About the CIC program
The UNM-LA Community Internship Collaboration is a workforce development program that pairs undergraduate students with a local business. Throughout the 15-week session, students gain hands-on work experience in a field of interest, while also being paid. Students also attend a series of classes at UNM-LA, for which they receive academic credit.

The CIC was established to fill an employment gap in the community and expand partnerships between the Laboratory, small business owners, and schools. The program’s goals are to provide meaningful work experiences for students, meet area workforce needs, and to develop the future workforce for our community, the region and the Laboratory.  For more information, visit http://losalamos.unm.edu/cic/
