To start the ball rolling, the Reporter would like to recognize Becca Jones, a teacher at Los Alamos High School, who is organizing a group of volunteers to pick up lunches from local schools to deliver for young people who might be home alone or whose parents/caregivers opt not to leave the house. Below is her message to the community. Kudos to you, Becca.
Good morning LA & WR!
👉Please private message me, text, or email me today to let me know if you would like me to doorbell ditch a sack lunch for your LAPS student(s) this week. I need to give Chartwells a number today ideally so they can prepare.
👉I’ve been given permission by the district to pick up lunches (since normally it would need to be the actual students or parents) and deliver them to those kiddos who might be home alone, or for who’s parents/caregivers it might be easier/safer to not leave the house.
👉I will take precautions to avoid prolonged contact with people. I think having delivery keeps larger groups of people from congregating at the pick-up sites. I have people willing to help me get meals delivered so that social distancing can have the greatest affect!
