LAPS NEWS RELEASE

Greetings from the Superintendent’s Desk!

Earlier today, Governor Michele Lujan Grisham declared a public health emergency in New Mexico.

In order to be proactive in our community, the Los Alamos Public Schools is taking the following steps to continue regular school operations while reducing the threat of infection. Effective immediately:

  1. School-sponsored staff and student travel outside of New Mexico is cancelled.
  2. LAPS extracurricular events and community gatherings will be postponed or cancelled (This includes dances, plays, robotics competitions, and music concerts.)
  3. LAMS and LAHS Saturday School will be held, as scheduled on March 14
  4. YMCA after-school care will remain open.

We are waiting for guidance from the New Mexico Activities Association about athletic and music competitions.

If you have questions about specific events, please call your school or check the LAPS website, click here.

The Los Alamos Public Schools coronavirus information page is here.  The New Mexico Department of Health hotline is 855-600-3453.

These cancellations will remain in effect until the end of our Spring Break, March 27.  Since this is a rapidly evolving situation, we will continuously monitor the situation and send timely updates, when available.
