Recently elected and re-elected UNM-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) Advisory Board members LauraBurrows and Stephen Boerigter were sworn in Monday to their advisory board membership by LosAlamos Municipal Judge Elizabeth Allen at the regular board meeting.
The board iscomposed of five members elected by the registered voters of Los Alamos County. Positions arefour-year terms with elections every two years. Other advisory board members include MichelleHall, Sheila Schiferl and David Sutton.
Following the swearing in ceremony, Boerigter was re-elected as board Chair and Sutton wasre-elected as board Secretary.
The UNM-LA Advisory Board acts in an advisory capacity, while the UNM Board of Regents is thegoverning board for the Los Alamos campus. By state law, the advisory board approves theannual budget for UNM-LA for recommendation to the Board of Regents and provides approvaland certification for the tax levy to Los Alamos County.
Per the bylaws, regular meetings of the Advisory Board are scheduled for the Monday precedingthe second Tuesday of each odd calendar month (except July) at 5:30 p.m. at the BranchCampus, unless otherwise directed by the chair of the Advisory Board. In compliancewith the New Mexico Open Meetings Act, meetings are announced in advance throughnewspapers or other appropriate means, giving the date, the time, and the place, as well as themajor topics discussed.
