Funeral Service Wednesday At Santa Fe National Cemetery For James Griffin

A funeral service will be held at 12:45 p.m. sharp Wednesday,  Jan. 15 at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe for James Griffin, a U.S. Army veteran and resident of Los Alamos, who died Sept. 9, 2019 with no known next of kin.

A community memorial service was held Nov. 4, 2019 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center in Los Alamos for Mr. Griffin which included participation by Los Alamos American Legion Post 90 and Los Alamos High School NJROTC cadets.

Mr. Griffin served in the U.S. Army in the early 1950s during the Korean War.  He also worked as a switchman for the Southern Pacific Railroad in the San Francisco Bay area. He graduated from the University of California-Berkeley in 1965 with a degree in mathematics. He also worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the 1980s and 1990s in the Space Recharge Program, Group C-3, the Computing Division, C-6, C-9, C-10 and Eng-7.

At Wednesday’s funeral service in Santa Fe, Mr. Griffin will be laid to rest with military honors. He will be escorted from the Rivera Family Funeral Home of Espanola leaving at noon for Santa Fe.  Members of the community are encouraged to attend.

The onsite representative of Espanola American Legion Post 17 will accept the flag on for Mr. Griffin.
