After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, what better way is there to kick off the holiday season than with a charitable donation? Sure, we may all feel bad about splurging on goods for ourselves, but there is a way to stop the shame and guilt–through giving. “Giving Tuesday,” the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a nationwide movement built on the premise of giving back. This year, consider donating to education through the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation. Gifts can be made at www.lapsfoundation.com/donate.

So how does your donation help the schools? Donations go towards funding teacher grants over the course of the school year, whether that be purchasing books for guided reading in classrooms, or supplying students with virtual reality headsets to allow them to experience a different approach to learning. An amount can make a huge difference in a student’s academic life.

The Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation is an independent organization that supports, challenges, and invests in a successful future for all Los Alamos public school students. Since its inception in 2005, the LAPS Foundation has raised more than $1.5 million to fund opportunities and materials for students, provide professional development for district educators, defray operating expenses, and assist with capital improvements to enrich learning environments in the Los Alamos public schools.
