SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE NEWS
Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver provided an update Monday on the number of New Mexico voters who have already cast their ballots for the regular local election currently happening throughout the state. The update also includes a breakdown of the total number of voters who have utilized same day voter registration during this election, the first time voters in New Mexico were able to do so.
Sec. Toulouse Oliver will provide updated numbers throughout the final week of early voting. Once polls close at 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, unofficial results will begin to be available on the Secretary of State’s website.
Tuesday, Oct. 8 was the first day that voters could begin casting ballots for the regular local election and early voting runs until Saturday, Nov. 2.
Same day voter registration – when a voter can register to vote or update their registration and vote on the same day – is in effect for the first time in New Mexico for this election. During early voting voters can utilize same day registration at their County Clerk’s office, and some County Clerks are providing the service at additional early voting locations. Voters who wait to vote until Election Day will need to already be registered in order to cast a ballot. Voters should check with their County Clerk or with the Secretary of State’s Office to find out if there are additional same day voter registration sites available in their county.
Voters can also use NMVOTE.org to check their registration status, download a sample ballot, find polling locations, and more.
