Thank You To The Taxpayers Of Los Alamos

Thank You To Taxpayers of Los Alamos

Editor,

As previous School Board Officers, we collectively write this letter to express our deep appreciation to Los Alamos parents, business owners, and community members that have unselfishly and generously given to support the future of Los Alamos.  We embarked upon this journey in 2007 when we had more than $300 million in capital facility needs. Since then, Los Alamos has passed $85 million in bond funds and received over $32 million in State matching funds.

The 2009 bond initiative was the first of its kind for Los Alamos because voters agreed to “bond to capacity” which means Los Alamos was better positioned to request State matching funds. Once we bonded to capacity, we have accomplished great things such as:

Los Alamos High School: Rebuild of A,B,C, and D Wings; Remodel of the cafeteria building for ROTC and Book Depository and IMC; Remodel of Griffith Gym lobby and restrooms; Landscaping, Remodel of the Band Wing, HVAC in lower E Wing

Los Alamos Middle School: Rebuild of all regular classrooms and library; Remodel of the Administrative area; Landscaping; Turf installed at football field and rebuild of the track; Paint and renovate gym building and locker rooms; Remodel of the cafeteria and kitchen.

Aspen Elementary: Rebuild of the entire classroom wing and library; Remodel of the Administrative area, art room, music room and created a new dining hall; Landscape and new playground; New staff parking area.

Barranca Elementary: Completed a new two-story classroom building.  Currently refurbishing the 100 and 200 buildings that include an early childhood center, gym, library, and additional classrooms.  Barranca work also includes a total roof replacement, landscaping and playground, parking lot and new bus loop.

Mountain Elementary: Building system upgrades for heating and air conditioning, electrical, roofs, and security.

Field House at Sullivan Field: Design of new Field House at the high school is complete.  Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2019.

Remaining District Dites: More than $10 million in assorted maintenance and repair of our buildings throughout Los Alamos and White Rock.

Promises made, promises kept.  Look at what we have accomplished together as a community!

Wow, all this work is commendable.

WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO…it is imperative that we continue on this path. We respectfully request that you continue to support LAPS students and staff by improving the facilities that we spend hundreds of hours within. There will be NO TAX RATE INCREASE for the election on November 5th.

Please VOTE YES for the Bond on November 5, 2019.  We cannot do it without your support!
