Nominations are now accepted for the 2019 Excellence in Teaching Award honoring teachers in Rio Arriba County and Pojoaque schools.
An engraved plaque and $1,000 prize will be given to seven teachers in recognition of their dedication and impact.
The program is offered by the nonprofit Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation and Centerra-Los Alamos (CLA), the Laboratory’s protective force contractor, to bring encouragement and support to the education profession.
Qualified nominees must have taught at their current K-12 public, Tribal or charter school in Rio Arriba County or Pojoaque for at least three years. Current and former students, teachers, administrators and other colleagues may submit nominations through the online form at http://www.lanlfoundation.org/teacheraward by the October 17, 2019 deadline.
Each teacher’s impact on his or her school, students and community; leadership qualities; cultivation of positive culture; and inspiration of lifelong learning in others will be considered by the selection committee, made up of invited community members and staff from sponsoring organizations. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded before the end-of-year break.
