Rotary Club President Phil Dabney, left, welcomes Dr. Gary King, the 2019-2020 District Governor for Rotary District 5520, which encompasses the 70 clubs in New Mexico and West Texas to Tuesday’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos. King, former New Mexico Attorney General and New Mexico state legislator, shared his visions and goals for the year ahead, touching memonbership recruitment and support of polio eradication, and praising Rotary members in the District for their call to action following the shootings in El Paso. During the meeting, Dabney presented King with a certificate honoring him with a Club donation in his name to PolioPlus, Rotary International’s fund for eradicating polio. Nigeria is expected to be declared polio-free soon, leaving Afghanistan and Pakistan as the only two countries in the world with active cases of this muscle-wasting disease. Due to world-wide efforts since 1988, polio has been eradicated by 99.9 percent. Photo by Linda Hull
