The 8th Annual “Drive for Matches” Golf Tournament benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters took place Saturday, July 13 at the Los Alamos Golf Course. The purpose of the annual tournament is to help fund the Big Brothers Big Sisters program that allows them to serve children in the Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties by forming one on one relationships with adult volunteers. Some $17,300 was raised at this year’s tournament.

More than 75 golfers participated in the tournament and attended dinner at the Elks Club of Los Alamos. Major sponsors included: Kelly Myers ReMax First, Alpine Financial, N3B, Gateway Mortgage, and Title Guaranty. The proceeds from the golf tournament allowed the organization to match 14 youths to mentors within the two counties.

Golfers from around the state participated from Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Espanola, and Los Alamos, payouts included 1st, 2nd and 3rd in gross and net. All had chances to win a car and destination golf trips. Jeff Dunning of Los Alamos won the putting contest and took $100 home.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region (BBBSMR) mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

BBBSMR provides children facing adversity, often those of single or low-income households with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

BBBS is the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring organization, holds itself accountable for children in its program to achieve measurable outcomes, such as educational success; avoidance of risky behaviors; and higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships.  Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children (“Littles”) with screened volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and monitors and supports these one-to-one mentoring matches throughout the duration of their match.
