Learn what will be coming up in August’s night skies this Friday, Aug. 2 in the Los Alamos Nature Center’s planetarium. Paul Arendt will lead this interactive tour of the heavens highlighting the planets, star patterns and constellations that may be readily observed throughout the month. The talk begins at 7 p.m. and is perfect for beginner stargazers who want to learn more.
Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury will all be visible in our spectacular August skies. Arendt will also discuss select objects like double stars, star clusters and nebulae outlined in a star-chat that will be handed out to the audience. The presentation will include objects that can be seen by the unaided eye or with binoculars or modest telescopes.
In addition to this program, the nature center will show the full-dome film “National Parks Adventure” on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. This film is perfect for nature lovers of all ages who want to see the beauty of our national parks from new perspectives. “National Parks Adventure” was brought to Los Alamos by CB Fox, Metzger’s Hardware and the Delle Foundation, with additional funding from Manhattan Project National Historical Park.
Seating is limited for both of these events, so please call the nature center at 505-662-0460 or stop by to reserve your tickets. Admission for both programs is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Events in the planetarium are not recommended for children under the age of 4.
