Hear about Lana Martin’s attempt at climbing Mount Elbrus, the tallest peak in Europe, at the Los Alamos Mountaineers meeting on Tuesday, July 23. This talk will start at about 7:15 p.m. at the Los Alamos Nature Center. The Mountaineers’ meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and cover information about upcoming outings. The event is free to attend and is open to the public.
In celebration of her 50th birthday, Martin decided to travel to her home country and attempt to climb Mt. Elbrus. The peak is located in Russia and stands at 18,510 feet. Every summer, thousands of climbers attempt to summit the mountain and many are successful. Unfortunately, several end in tragedy as the mountain takes about 15 to 30 lives annually. Despite this gloomy statistic, Martin decided to go on the adventure of a lifetime. Hear about the ups and downs of her experience at this talk.
