The lane closures are necessary to allow workers to replace the main water line, which requires open trenching across East Jemez Road, across from the Los Alamos Eco Transfer Station.
Drivers should watch for directional signage regarding partial lane closures beginning Friday morning with full lane closures starting at 6 p.m. Friday and continuing through Sunday, June 9. Weather permitting, East Jemez Road is also scheduled to be closed June 14 through June 16 in a similar pattern.
Monday morning commuters should see all lanes open but will encounter steel plates covering the work area.
The water line replacement is part of a $34.5 million Supplemental Environmental Projects settlement agreement between the New Mexico Environment Department and the U.S. Department of Energy following the February 2014 drum breach incident at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad, N.M.
