A 27-year old Los Alamos woman is facing several charges after a June 2 incident where Los Alamos Police Department responded to a reported assault at a residence on 36th Street.

Samantha Marie Rust is charged in Los Alamos Magistrate Court with assault on a police officer, battery on a police officer, battery on a health care professional, resisting arrest, one count of disorderly conduct at the 36th Street residence and a second count of disorderly conduct at Los Alamos Medical Center.

Court documents filed by LAPD Cpl. Robert Stephens indicate that when he arrived at the residence Rust was yelling foul language, her speech was slurred and that he couldn’t understand anything other than the profane words she was using. Rust was being held down by three male. He noted that there were several young children in or near the kitchen.

Stephens attempted to calm Rust down without success. She was taken into custody for disorderly conduct, the report says, adding that as Stephens attempted to walk Rust to his patrol unit, Rust went completely limp forcing him to carry her there. He noted a heavy odor of alcohol from Rust.

The report states that a female victim had a bloody nose from where Rust allegedly punched her and teeth marks on her hand from where Rust allegedly bit her.

Rust was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center for a medical check. The report states that she yelled at emergency room personnel and that several families there appeared to be frightened by her. It says Stephens attempted to calm Rust down and that she sat down for 10 to 15 minutes before getting agitated and attempting to leave. When Stephens placed his hand on her shoulder to prevent her from standing up, the report states that she tried to bit him. When he assisted her to the ground, she allegedly bit his shoe.

When a room became available for Rust, she refused to walk and had to be carried there. Medical staff determined Rust needed to be restrained and asked Stephens to help. During that time, Stephens observed her kicking one of the nurses, hitting him in the chest and chin. When Rust was almost completely restrained, she allegedly spat at Stephens hitting him on the right side and back.

Judge Alexandra Naranjo, filling in for Judge Pat Casados, placed Rust on full house arrest with GPS pending a July 5 status hearing in Magistrate Court.
