County Seeks Applicants For Board Of Registration

Los Alamos County

COUNTY NEWS

Because of a recent change in State legislation, the Los Alamos County Council is seeking applicants to fill a two-year term on the local Board of Registration. Previously, nominations were solicited by the Chairs of the local Democratic, Libertarian and Republican parties, but the new law eliminated that requirement. There will be five members appointed to this Board.

Consideration and appointment of applicants for the Board of Registration, which also serves as the Canvassing Committee after elections, has been placed on the Council’s June 11 meeting agenda (6:00 p.m., Council Chambers). A call for letters of interest is now open and letters are due to the County Manager no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 6.

Interested applicants must be a registered voter in Los Alamos County. To apply, individuals are asked to submit a short letter with their name, address and a short paragraph indicating why they would be interested in serving on the Board. Under State law, any qualified person over the age of 18 who is a resident of Los Alamos County may serve. Letters should be mailed or hand-delivered to County Manager Harry Burgess, Los Alamos County Municipal Building, 1000 Central Avenue, Suite 350, Los Alamos, NM 87544 by the deadline. Candidates who submit a letter do not need to be present at the June 11 Council meeting.
