NEWS RELEASE FROM LAPS SUPT. KURT STEINHAUS
Los Alamos Public Schools is pleased to announce that Suzanne Lynne, former Chamisa principal, will be moving to the new role of principal at Los Alamos Middle School. She will take over the helm at the start of the 2019-20 school year and will continue the outstanding teaching and leadership that is a tradition at the middle school.
Former Principal Brian Easton will return to Los Alamos High School as an economics teacher. Former Assistant Principal Pam Miller has the opportunity to return to serving as an elementary school teacher.
LAPS is excited to move the middle school in a direction that helps all students thrive and be successful.
The new direction includes increased student help with learning mathematics. Today’s math goes beyond knowing procedures to understanding the fundamentals of number concepts.
The new direction also includes positive support for student discipline using a program called Safe and Civil Schools.
Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus said, “We aim to provide consistent and positive support for discipline, not only at the middle school, but across the district.”
Lynne brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this new leadership role. Lynne began teaching at LAPS in 1997, and also served as literacy coach for 12 years. Before becoming principal at Chamisa Elementary School, she was the principal at La Tierra Montessori School of the Arts and Sciences, a K-8 school in the Espanola Valley.
“The last three years at Chamisa have been transformative for me,” said Lynne. “I have been given a huge gift in getting to serve this community.”
The Assistant Principal position will be announced soon.
