The Pajarito Environmental Education Center’s (PEEC’s) signature event, the annual Earth Day Festival, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Los Alamos Nature Center. The festivities include delicious food, the debut of the new Passport to the Pajarito Plateau, fun activities and exciting entertainment. Plus, this year’s festival will be a zero waste event!
Throughout the day, guests can visit a variety of community booths with all kinds of activities and information to celebrate Earth Day. Recycle Man will provide interactive entertainment at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Wise Fool will perform at noon. Enjoy a delicious lunch from Sirphey and Grandma’s Kettle Corn. Both vendors will be serving food in compostable packaging and volunteers will be at the festival to help attendees sort their waste. PEEC encourages people to bring their own water bottle, utensils and napkins to help reduce the waste generated from the festival.
Event attendees can also be among the first people to pick up PEEC’s Passport to the Pajarito Plateau, Part III. The passport program is one of PEEC’s most popular offerings. The passports encourages people of all ages to hike Los Alamos’s incredible trails and earn prizes along the way by making rubbings to stamp their passports while out hiking.
There will be no parking available at the nature center. Instead, park at the Justice Center (across from the library) and ride the free Atomic City Transit bus straight to the nature center. Before stopping by the festival, join New Mexico Bank & Trust for a Shred Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1475 Central Avenue. Bring two boxes or up to 50 pounds of paper to shred. It’s free to participate, but the bank will be collecting donations to support PEEC’s monthly Family Star Parties.
