Join the Bradbury Science Museum and the Los Alamos Creative District for Science On Tap Monday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. at UnQuarked Wine Room. This On Tap will feature a conversation with Dr. Sven Vogel about the Ram’s Horn wire gold specimen and the Dual-Axis Radiographic Hydrodynamic Test Facility (DAHRT) capabilities at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Recently, researchers at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) had the unique opportunity to peer inside the Ram’s Horn, one of the world’s most amazing and secretive specimens of wire gold. A National User Facility supporting the Lab through critical research on nuclear weapons performance, reliability, and safety, LANSCE capabilities include unique characterization techniques for materials analysis.

Thanks to these mission-critical capabilities, Dr. Sven Vogel of the Lab’s Materials Science in Radiation & Dynamics Extremes group learned some surprising information about the Ram’s Horn specimen, including the fact that’s it’s actually only about 70 percent gold.

If you want to learn more about research on the Ram’s Horn and what scientists at LANSCE are learning about gold-silver alloy isotope enrichment, please join the On Tap conversation at UnQuarked!

Registration for this event is not required. Admission is free. UnQuarked Wine Room by Sirphey offers a wide selection of wines and beers on tap.  Be sure to arrive early to place your order from Sirphey’s made-fresh daily menu!

About the On Tap Series: On Tap is a series of discussions hosted at UnQuarked in downtown Los Alamos. Each month features one On Tap with a rotating theme. The Pajarito Environmental Education Center partners with the Creative District to host Nature On Tap. The Los Alamos Historical Society and Fuller Lodge Art Center host History and Art On Tap, respectively. The Bradbury Science Museum hosts Science On Tap every month.

More information about Science On Tap and other Bradbury Science Museum programs and events can be found at www.lanl.gov/museums.
