Los Alamos National Security, LLC, the former management and operating contractor for Los Alamos National Laboratory has been awarded close to $48 million in award fees for FY 2018, according to a report released Thursday by the National Nuclear Security Administration. The total amount awardable was $50.1 million.
The 10-page report focuses on the contractor’s leadership performance as measured by NNSA against the Performance Evaluation and Measurement Plan from Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018, and notes that LANS achieved “an adjectival grade of Good”.
The report notes that performance in Core Weapons, Global Security and Science, Technology and Engineering areas was very strong with some challenges in mission support areas including operational waste management, environmental permitting and compliance “and communications across the enterprise”.
“Strides were made in important safety culture with attention to first line supervisor training and discipline, an important focus on lessons learned and metrics, and reengineering of some key safety programs, however instances continue where staff did not follow proper conduct of operations,” the report states.
